Here’s a pencil box I made for my wife to use on her cluttered desk (snuck a project in while she’s out of town). I made it from 1/4” (before sanding) slats I milled from a storm-felled branch of one of the Live Oak trees on the property.

The knot’s are always a standout for me. Where’s the pencils…..................

I love it when a plan comes together.

I have some storm felled live oak I’ve been drying for about 6 months, just waiting for the right project.

The box looks great!

That is some cool grain. Live oaks don’t grow quite this far North. I’d like to try some and it looks like it would play well with some walnut.

Oops, I forgot to mention in the original, but the bottom of the box is Southern Yellow Pine (tbh, I milled that from a piece of scrap 2”x4”)
