This tugboat came from a plan by Jim Makowicki in “Making Heirloom Toys.” It’s pine, mostly, finished with lots of gloss polyurethane.

It handles surprisingly poorly in the water – it floats but tends to flip—it’s just too top-heavy. I made another one from WOOD magazine which isn’t as pretty but floats much better.

I wonder if your carved out the inside of the top block, this might make it lighter. Or add a couple of fins for stability.

I work on one of those! Well i work on a inland tugboat, different style :)
