I was hired a week or so ago to create a very custom Mash Paddle for someone to give as a gift to his friend.

The person is a home-brewer and a Washington Redskins fan and I was asked if I could combine these two loves into a Mash paddle. Oh yeah – also would I put his initials on it? Sure!

So, I took the “old-school” Redskins logo and surrounded it by two hops flowers. His monogram was then put on the handle, as you can see.

The paddle is solid 1 inch thick Cherry, measures 41 inches long and is around 4 inches wide at its widest point.

Treatment is a coat of food-grade mineral oil as this paddle will be used in the beer making process.

I believe this is my fifth paddle in a very short time-span and I already am discussing a possible sixth with a really nice customer half way across the country! I am sure glad I really enjoy making these! :-)

Enjoy!

Neat. Good for you. Good stuff.

Wow, that ‘R’ looks delicate.

How does a Ravens fan work on such a piece?

Steve,

When you are working on such thick material, things aren’t as delicate as they appear. This paddle is still easily usable for stirring and shouldn’t have any issues.

As a Raven’s Fan, I don’t have much of an issue working on Redskins items as they aren’t in our division AND they were kind of Baltimore’s “team” for a while….. Now a Steeler’s Paddle would hurt a LOT. ;-)
