706 days ago (almost two years, where has the time gone) I posted the final part of the blog on the construction of this but I realised the other day I never posted it as a project. It never made it to be a box lid but it is a rather nice piece of wall art which resides on the ‘Stairway to Devon’ (see previous wall art posts).

The pattern is 200mm across corners, 6mm deep on a 3mm plywood base. Its made of Ebony, Purpleheart and Sycamore. Glued with PVA and Sanding Sealer only for a finish.

Let me be the first to say – this is super cool!

Nicely done, Martyn. I like it a lot. You have a knack for creating both complexity and beauty simultaneously.

Sweet!

This would make anyone’s wall look better!

From reading your blogs I KNOW how this is done, but it still confuses/impresses me!

Martyn, this one puts you in the upper Escherlons of woodworkers.

Still looks great!
It’s been a favorite of mine as well.

I have made a few more of them since with the last one waiting to become a table for my newly married daughter.
Thanks for posting

Sycamore. Who would have thought. I need to pay attention to tree identification and prepare for the next big storm off Lake Michigan. Some call it a catastrophe, but the silver lining is, the streets are paved with gold.

I have to turn away. Your wall lid makes me want to stare.

It looks perfect, Martyn. Your Stairway to Devon must prevent people from actually getting upstairs.
