Bedroom Suite

I built this project a while ago and am now just getting around to posting it, this is bedroom suite with a king sized bed for our master bedroom, it is made using eastern tiger maple for the tops and legs and headboard, and walnut for the the rest. The bed pedestal is made using western maple. The center of the headboard and tops of the night tables are two bookmatched pieces of eastern tiger maple with the cutoff from the headboard used on the night tables. I was lucky to find some figured walnut for the morror. The bed sides are 2×6 walunt witch were very hard to find in my neck of the woods at that time. The joinery of the face frames is mortise and tennon, biscuits are used for the glue up of tops and sides . All the drawers are dovtailed and have full extention ball bearing drawer glides mounted on the bottom of the drawers. I made the drawer pulls using tiger maple. I have always hated taking beds apart to move them, so the bed (including the pedestal) is totally assembled with quick release hardware, meaning no tools are required to take the complete bed apart and move it, it only takes about ten minutes. This was a very time consuming and fun project, but it was very hard to store the completed pieces in my workshop while they waited for varnish finishing. Speaking of the finish there is approximately 6 coats of hand cloth applied oil.

Thankyou for looking

Love it. Nice choice of woods. I especially like the headboard design. It kooks light and airy, not so overwhelming as many are. Nice job for sure.

Beautiful. Nice design! Jim Post made a coment I try to remember as I look at all the debri in my shop. ” don’t build it if you have no place for it to go.” LOL! (might not be an exact quote, my appologies Mr. Post.)

Wondering about the design? Original or a plan? I like its uniqueness (sp?)

Just want to take a moment to thank everyone for thier comments and thanks for looking. SteveA it took approx 5 months to complete. DocSavage, the bed is original and designed by my wife, the dressers and night tables are also designed by my wife borowing the basic leg designs from Asian inspired pieces we have admired over the years, the mirror also borrows the legs design and it is also incorporated on the headboard of the bed. So I would say the design is pretty much original. I’m not sure what (sp?) means
