I spent last fall and winter renovating a log house. Had to remove some logs for design change in the upstairs bedrooms, and was not about to throw the three foot pieces into the dumpster. They came home with me and now I have a pine boot for the effort.
I stayed away from carving any details and let the wood grain do the talking. Used gunstock orange for the inner stain and Ultra Shine for the first polish and topped it off with Shellawax (both Australian wood products, www.ubeaut.biz).
This boot will be one of my models for the up coming cowboy boot carving course at Lee Valley Tools. I expect to have a ‘rip snorting time’ with my class. Only 7 weeks to the Calgary Stampede! YAAAAA WHOOOOOOO!!!!

There is something ‘fitting’ to fashion a boot from a log cabin. Good looking boot…!

-- I just got done cutting three boards and all four of them were too short. (true story)
