I wanted to thank everyone for posting their pictures of projects. I am going to build all new furniture for the bedroom and it helped looking at other peoples designs.
This is the first thing I worked on. It is an all solid cherry bed except for the large panels on the headboard that are cherry plywood. The legs are 3 layers of wood laminated. The finish is clear oil then cherry danish oil with polycrylic on top. We did not want a box frame because of the height(for the dogs). This may be overkill but I angled the platform sides so that when the mattress weights it down, it would keep the whole bed square and prevent it from twisting. Kinda like when you nail that panel on the back of cheap store bought book shelves, and all of the sudden it’s rigid! At least until you move it again. I thought it might take stress off the bed connectors and keep it tighter. I used the professional Beadlock jig for most of the joinery. Overall I was happy with the Beadlock jig but I do have some complaints/improvements for the tool. I should post a separate gripe about that.
Next is two night stands, three chest of drawers and a little carpeted platform for the dogs to step/jump up on. Platform added now. It has a hinged lid with storage within.

Turned out great. The nightstands should take it over the top.

Thanks for taking detailed pictures. I am looking at your project for the same reason you were looking at others’ projects and these detailed pictures help.

I like that …no foot board. I like to hang my feet off the end when I sleep. :) I’d like to make one like that someday.
Have your say...
