My first built-in furniture…you can see from the last two “before” pictures that this space was just begging for a built-in.

Really nice work, Cody. I’ve always liked built-in bookcases and cabinets…especially when painted white to go with the trim. I’m building a similar built-in with a window seat in the middle, but I’ve started and stopped several times now because the proportions just didn’t seem right, specifically the height of the base cabinets vs. the bookcases (and yes, I did draw the plans…first with 26” cabinets, then 32” cabinets…both looked fine on paper). My wife wants the bookcases to go to the ceiling (8 ft.) and across the top of the window, but 32 inch base cabinets still don’t look right to me…how high are your base cabinets?

Henry3 – the base cabinets are 32” and the upper cabinets are 48”...I drew it all in Sketchup beforehand to check the proportions.

Cody, these built in bookcases really look great. You did a fine job on them.
