I made this for a friend’s wedding in ‘06. The chest is oak and oak plywood; the drawer fronts are false, just decorative. This was my first large scale project and I used it to work on my measurement and fitting skills. The carcass and top are put together with biscuit joinery. The finish is Minwax Gunstock stain and 4 coats of polyurethane. The newlyweds sent back pictures showing that the chest holds quite a bit of their wedding swag. I hope it gives them years of service.

Excellent Shape and style, I was expecting to see the drawers opening. They hold more this way, appears to be quite large in size, not one of the smaller chests. Love the color and grain of the Oak its a Anchor wood, projects made of it seem to be permanent…..your brother in woodworking John

That is really nice. I prefer the lighter oak to the dark.

Hi Mottom,
This is a nice chest and you did a good job on this. It has a nice design to it and the drawer fronts add a nice detail to the chest.
Thanks for the post.

This is why I like oak plywood. You can make something as nice as this, and not spend a fortune doing it. Nice looking chest, and I am sure the happy couple was glad to receive it.

Now that is a nice chest. Expecially like the grain run, adds to the quality. Great piece.

Very nice chest. I may have to copy it for my niece who I have been promising a hope chest for 2 years now. I think I have finally found the design.
