first attempt at box joints

Like the title says, this was my first attempt. The wood is black ash finished with multiple coats of tung oil. I recently bought one of those woodsmith box joint jigs and decided to try it out. Between the jig drifting on you and my crappy set of dado blades, there was a considerable amount of tearout. Very fun though. It was a gift for a family friend who’s husband died. He was a woodworker so i snagged one of his boards to build this. I thought that would make it a little more personal.

Good job! I made my first box with this joinery last Christmas also experienced a lot of tear out. Purchased a set of Freud’s box joint blades and made the jig according to their instructions – big improvement.

Nice box, the joints look nice and tight, as all of us you may be too critical of your work.

-- Martin ....always count the number of fingers you have before, and after using the saw.

Have your say...
