My wife is short and needs a boost to reach items on higher shelves. Therefore, I made her a library or Franklin chair which converts from a chair to a step ladder.

Our grandsons have discovered that it makes a great step ladder to the kitchen counter.

Very interesting project. This may just have to go on my ever growing to-do list.

I am going to make one of these. Did you have plans? If so, where did you get them?

Rikkor,

There are plans available for library chairs (I have a book at home that shows one) but for this chair I designed it from pictures. I took measurements from existing chairs in our kitchen and then made full size drawings.

Google is a great resource in finding plans. Here’s one from Mother Earth News: http://www.motherearthnews.com/Do-It-Yourself/1989-09-01/Fold-Over-Library-Chair.aspx
