Just finished this as a birthday gift. The design caught my eye so I thought I’d give it a go. Haven’t build anything from plans before so it was a good learning experience. The woods are birdseye maple and walnut. The vases are from Target (harder to find than I thought).
The magazine shows it with rocks and flowers, I am thinking the sticks w/scented oil or oil candles.
Sorry for the 2nd pic. It shows upright when I pull it up on the computer but not here…

Thanks for the nice comments :-)
The finish is a BLO/Shellac blend.

It turned out great. I just got that issue of Wood also, and That is the project that caught my wife’s eye
I need to make my sister a birthday gift….trying to imaging how pissed my wife would get if she see’s me making it, then it “disappears” to the UPS office?
If you don’t mind, what did the glass vases cost? I know they should be available at Hobby Lobby/Michaels etc. Just wondering about retail price to get them.

Well I don’t know your wife but I think you better make two! Just sayin’ :-)
I originally purchased some vases at Michael’s that bowed out in the middle but then I could only friction fit one side of the retainer planks, or make the top holes as wide as the widest part of the vase so they could come out for cleaning and I didn’t like those options.
I bought the originals at Michael’s for $2.99 but they didn’t have the straight side ones. Target came through at only $2.00 each.
