Hey Folk’s,

here again with an other Mother’s day gift. I made this little bit over sized, I saw the tray once on the web and like the shape, so I give it a tray this past wekend. Its made from Parota wood and Hard Maple, finish with Bowl Salad Finish from GF. Final dimensions are 24” x 14” x 2.75”

You may already know this but for some one who does not know the Parota wood, it’s is a very interesting wood to work with. I’d like to hear your experiences if you have work with it before.

Dust mask is a must the wood dust it burns like chilli peppers if you inhale the dust. had to keep the mask on as well as vac and ventilation system the whole time wile working with the wood, you can not even breath with the mask with out filling the dust on your throat

thks for stooping by!

That’s awesome, thanks for the heads up on the wood dust, I have been trying new species whenever I can, that advice is worth its weight in gold.

Hi Guys, thks for your complements on my work.

Hola Simpsy, I just build it looking at the picture and the size of my boards, I had one 8/4” board about 4.5 feet long and 22” wide, I made few picture frames on commission but kept enough to build the tray.

after the picture frames I end up with the 4.5feet long by 14” wide, so I had to cut in half and give the relative dimensions I though was the correct ones. however I found today the plans for this at WOODStore.net, I purchase the plan just so I can compare the process vs what I did. thats when I realized that I made too big vs the one from the plans.

I had to made two MDF molding, one for the out side shape and one for the inside shape since I used my router to make the product smoother. I cut on my home made band saw and then use the router.

I was looking options on how to trace an oval and I found this Video link, so I learn the process and is very easy to do any size oval.

BTW, if you wish to have a copy of the plans send me a message.

thks!
