I made this several weeks ago and I’m really not that happy with it. I got it from my sister’s home-place. She has a HUGE redbud there but one of the trunks had died several years ago and I got to thinking and figured…what the heck….let’s see what happens. The wood was great to work with.
The box measures 8’‘L x 6’‘W x 4 1/2’‘H. My goal was to leave a live edge all around the top and it basically worked out but one piece of a corner did chip off. Oh well…....there is always the next box! I used a wax on it and it really made the grain pop out on this wood. Thanks for looking.

Wow! This is really unique. The lid with the built-in handle w/natural edge, very, very kool! The grains, and everything about this box is very kool.

Wow, nice! I’m not familiar with redbud but it sure is a nice looking wood. I really like the live edge around the top, and cutting the thumb piece to lift it open is a really nice touch. Thanks for sharing :)

That’s the first redbud project I have ever seen. It looks like interesting wood and you did a good job with yours.

i really like your box, ive also used red bud and i really love the wood, to me its much like walnut and has some very nice figure to it, i like how the lid has the small area of live edge that is attached, dont dislike it for the chipped out area, all of our boxes have there own character and this is a really fine box….

I look at this board a lot but I rarely (almost never) comment on anything. Couldn’t resist on this one. Redbud! (good luck finding a few board feet of that), sister’s tree, live edges, knob integrated in the edge, fabulous looking finish… this is really an awesome project… thanks for sharing.

I am not really sure why your not happy with it. I personally think it looks great. I planted a redbud in my yard because I love those early spring flowers. I have never considered what the wood would look like. After seeing this I wouldn’t be surprised to see it used a little more often. Excellent job on the box and excellent job thinking outside the box and using a wood we don’t normally hear about in woodworking.

Wow, even finding a large Redbud is something here in NE Alabama. I know of only a few. Beautiful box.
