Many years ago a friend of mine gave me a whole lot of rosewood floor blocks from a house renovation project. Through the years these blocks moved with me to the frustration of my wife. Eventually I decided to do something with them about 4 years ago. The photos show various items I made.
1 & 2 is two jewelry boxes
3 is a Chinese checkers board
4 are some place mats for hot dishes; a serviette holder; coasters and a salt & pepper shaker set
5 is a close up of the salt and pepper shaker set
6 is a close up of the coasters.
The blocks were cut to 4mm thickness on my table saw and where needed laminated in instances where the blocks were too narrow for the coasters.
I made a press jig for the place mats (Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of that)

What a great use of scrap pieces. Love the salt/pepper shakers, game board and jewelry boxes. The trivets, too, well, everything! Beautifully done. I hope your wife now sees why hoarding wood pieces is a good thing!

Thanks for the compliments. The two jewelry boxes were made for my daughter and and my friends daughter 21st birthday. The coaster are resawed with my table saw (I don’t have a bandsaw) to 4mm and the laminated to get the correct width as the floor blocks are a bit narrow.
