I wanted to make a nice, homemade present for my mom for mothers day. I got some nice ideas from this website and decided to make a box with splines. The box was made from 1/2” pine with walnut splines. I used a honey stain (A Minwax product) that gave this project some extra flavor. I used brass hinges and hook and eye to hold the lid firm. I used 5 coats of wipe on poly to finish with sanding in between. Thanks for checking it out! Please leave a comment or tips!

That’s a Very Nice Looking Box you made. And your only 18 years old! I’m looking forward to seeing how good you get as you get older. Great job!

Nice box. I could not have pulled that off at 18. I am not sure I could even hit a nail with a hammer when I was 18. I look forward to see more from you.

Nice job! The walnut/pine combination worked well together. And finished in time for Mother’s Day!

Lovely box.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, you have to be doing something right to make pine look that good.
Thanks for posting.

That is a beautifull box. Love the variations in the spline lenghts. May just copy that ;-)
