One of my first projects ~2005 before I had most of my shop. My wife wanted shoe storage down by the entryway and I wanted a place to sit higher than the bottom stair. This piece was where I got my first hardwood sticker shock. $7+/BF Walnut for the 13” wide Walnut pieces at the Hardwood dealer! I thought building stuff would be cheaper! I didn’t have a jointer so I thought that widepanels would be a good idea but they also cost money to have them planed at a local cabinet shop. I also learned some lessons in joinery. A box of flatsawn with biscuited Butt joints everywhere is bound to split somewhere. It did a little on the top but not too bad. Also solid doors don’t do so well with humidity changes here in MD. They work great in the winter but door grow too much in the summer and bind together. Frame and paneling them is on the to do list. Finish is Minwax Walnut gel and Waterlox.
