This toybox is the 6th one I have done. The first trial version had foam letters from walmart. They were stuck on with a sticky pad on the back. We quickly learned that babies love to pull them off. From then on, we have only used wood letters. I have done a few initials (when names wouldn’t fit) but mostly names. I did make one for a 4 year old and she loves it. She tells everybody that I made it and it is hers. She loves to sit on it and read books. It is awesome to see something so precious that is personal and handmade. This particular one is for a friend of a friend, who asked me to make this for their son for his 1st birthday. I found the plan online free and by georgia pacific. It is 1/2” mdf, painted with latex paints. My wife designed the entire box. We found the small airplane and clouds (prepainted) at the local arts and crafts store. She painted the wood letters to match. The side has a helicopter and a wood word which says allstar. I am not particularly proud of these on a woodworking aspect, since it is medium density fiberboard. However, the end result is extremely attractive and I can’t tell you how many times I get asked to make them for people. I get more attention from these than from anything else I have done. I made the upper and lower trim with a 5/32” roman ogee router bit from the scraps that is otherwise waste. They also have child safety hinges to protect delicate fingers.

That is the only picture I could find. I wish I had more. I did this one last summer. I am in the process of putting another one together for this christmas and I will post more pics of that one.
