This project was a father son project, my son has dresser drawers under his bed so he needed a shelf to keep his books and such. I set it up simple and quick because I am going to build the same shelf with my other son as well, as they are 12 and 11 and limited in their experience as am I.

We made the sides out of 3/4×6” x 4’ glued together to make a 12” side the shelves are a foot deep and the bookshelf is 2’ wide. It was fun to do with my son and am looking forward to doing the next shelf with my other son.

I would consider using a couple of corner braces, say 1-2”, to attach to the wall near the upper corners. This would provide needed lateral bracing, yet require only a few minutes and only a dollar’s worth of materials from the friendly neighborhood hardware store.
