For an upcoming show Derrick and I wanted to have a larger piece as a sort of eye grabber. We joined forces to make two of this design. The one pictured here is walnut and maple; the other was cherry and movingui. The box, drawer and tray are all walnut with maple splines. At 14×11x11, it takes a wide board to make this design work as one piece.
Leslie worked with us on this and was kind enough to sew the top “pouch” for keeping necklaces in place. The elastic band in the middle keeps necklaces in place when you close the lid. The fabric adds some needed color. (Hint: The cherry frame moves the hooks forward, holds the cloth pouch firmly in place, and adds a design touch as well.)
Critique: The bottom “legs,” corner splines, drawer pull and top lift help to break up the mass of this box so it doesn’t look too monolithic. It has a pretty large footprint, but uses the space efficiently to create a good deal of storage and different types of storage. 45ing the drawer face ends and the drawer opening, centers the drawer when you close it. (Hint: Installing the drawer and then attaching the face last, makes fine adjustments on fit much easier.)
As always, thanks for looking and a big thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Very very nice. I like everything about this box.
It’s beautiful and will certainly be the “eye-catcher” you wanted.

Nice looking box. Wood selection and finish are very nice. Inside dividers and top are done nicely. Well done. I’m sure people will take a look.
