This is a box I made form some bodark (osage orange for those outside Texas) and beetle eaten pecan. I was going for a pretty rustic and old look, hence the glass bondo in the joints. Originally, I was going to paint the bodark and go into much further detail with the project. Everyone told me I should have built it out of plywood or at least a lesser desirable wood if I did. I was really torn on weather to replace them or let them go. This is my first shop style project and wanted to do better. I built the outside first and then put the pecan liner in which pulled apart the joints a bit. Live and learn I guess. Its not a building so I guess inside out would have worked better.I had plenty of the bodark to replace it and then realized the look I was going for.

I do not mind some constructive criticism. I have never been a shop kinda guy so any input would be helpful. I am certain that a better set of shop tools would be helpful, but I cannot afford that right now. So any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I like it, the wood you used gave this piece some real character. Nice tools are great, but if you can create like this with whatever you have your doing quite well. Remember even if you have the best most expensive tool, this like any other art form is from within. Great job.

I agree with Martyroc and would add…..practice, practice, practice. You did a great job for your first “shop” work and always be aware that we are our own worst critics.

That being said, I like the glass bondo. It looks like inlay work! LOL I also like the top that you have on the drawer itself. A great idea.

You gotta love that bodark!

I like it. I find it an attractive box. Perhaps a mantel piece.
