I made this toy car out of purple and yellow heart for my nephew—his father is a Vikings fan. I used the same template I made for previous car.
I resawed the piece for the stripe on my table saw then cut the three body parts separately on my scroll saw before gluing them together, from previous experience I’ve learned my scrolls saw doesn’t handle +1” woods very well. Then I finished shaping the body on an oscillating sander and a router table.
The wheels were cut with a holes saw, shaped on the router table, and finish sanded on the drill press. I made the 1/4” axles using a homemade dowel cutter. I used plastic washers I cut out of a milk jug between the wheels and the body.
I finished the car with 4 (maybe 5, I can’t count that high) coats of wipe on urethane.

Love the cool ergonomic design. And, it looks like it would give a great back massage.

@DHS – I was going to say the same thing. With those nicely rounded wheels and open “handle” this looks very much like a walnut/maple back massager I made many years ago. Only this one looks much nicer than mine.

Without reading the title and only seeing the pics, I thought “those are very nice looking back massagers”.

These are the best little cars. Grab em hard, bear down around the corners and send them flying. With those big wheels they’d be great on carpet. Real simple, real nice looking.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
The resemblance to a back messager wasn’t lost on me. After I completed the first one (the maple and walnut), I tried it out and it felt pretty good. I guess when the kids get too old to play with them they’ll have a second life.
