I am new to posting on LJ, but have lurked for some time checking out other’s fantastic projects and helpful tool reviews. So I figured I would share some of my work. I am just a hobbyist and like the focus and relaxation for me that goes with time in the shop and carefully working on finished carpentry (boxes, tables, toys, furniture, cabinets, ceilings, etc).

I made this table about a year ago and it is one of my absolute favorite projects (since it came out almost exactly like I had hoped it would).

The majority of it is solid cocobolo. The border around the chess portion of the table is Bolivian rosewood and cedar (scrap I had in the shop) and the chess table itself is wenge and maple.

Largely tongue in groove construction for the side and column panels with some splines on the tiers of the base. It has a “hidden” drawer that just looks like any of the other panels, but when you pull it out, there is a divided drawer for chess pieces and checker pieces (no I did not turn those).

Thanks for looking.

Absolutely beautiful. The dark woods really bring out the maple. Great contrast.
