Not only functional but a necessity.

These are some surfboard racks that I made. I needed to organize the quiver a little bit, boards take up a lot of room when not stacked like so. When I was making them I decided to also make a rack to hold my booties, gloves, and wetsuit. They all work wonderfully, they really help with drying and organization. For the racks I made two sets, one made out of a mahogany ply and poplar arms, and the other out of white oak ply and alder arms. As you can see I taped the outer edges of the ply. I also attached the arms simply by countersink and screw from the back of the ply. I attached the angled joint of the arm the same way by countersink and screw. I applied a conversion varnish dull rubbed effect clear as the finish, no stain. I applied it using a HVLP gravity fed spray gun, I put the first layer on as a sealer. Then after it hardened off about 45min- an hour later, I scuffed them with 220 and then applied the topcoat. I had fun making these, real easy. I think that they turned out quite nice as well. They make having surfboards in a small place functional, I can’t believe that I had gone so long without making them. They are now most def a necessity for me, at this moment my board collection is almost out of control, got to thin some out soon.

A very aestetically pleasing & utilitarian piece. Nice job!

I’ll have to make me some of these…........After I learn how to surf. Not an easy thing to learn in the Green Mountain state, Vermont.
