This is one of my partner’s designs (Michael Pietras) a recently completed four post solid poplar single bed. This is part of our venture into the world of modern furniture. A unique original design taking the simple four post concept and changing it a bit to slant the posts a bit outward on two angles. A model was made in foam, shaped and adjusted to reach the final design.
From there a template was made and used to layout glue-ups and then everything in the shop possible to employ to remove material and shape it was employed from jointers to routers to hand planes.
Standard bed hardware keeps the setup together. the frame is assembled, meaning all the support rails and a plywood deck screwed down to keep it quiet and secure.
It’s all white (obviously right?) finished in a two part automotive grade polyurethane.
We got some great feedback on it today from our client, I’m trying to remember the quote it was something like “This is the best bed I’ve ever had and I’m already FIVE!” ... That type of excitement on delivery always helps make our day better!
