On his first visit to Disney this February My Grandson fell in love with the Pirate Jack Sparrow character and everything Pirates, so for his birthday I thought it appropriate to design/build him a chest for his “LUTE” and worldly possessions (i.e. toys and such) ! The design of the box is glue and joint construction and made with Oak Ply and ebony stained Poplar. I Glued the box assembly as a whole and then cut the lid from the box on the TS. It features rope handles and a child safe lid support, and “Pirate” accents that he can remove as he grows up and out of this phase( as they often do !) The project was some what difficult because of the two tone stain finish, but worth it in the long run. It turned out as expected and He was thrilled with the end results which made it all worth the effort ! Thanks for taking a look and as always be safe !..........ROB

I just showed this to my grandson. He is a huge Capt. Jack Sparrow fan.

Can you make me one Pop Pop? Oh dear!

Very nice work rob.

Love it. I am in the middle of building a chest for my kids clothing. How did you make/attach the handles?

Very nice! The two tone finish really caught my eye.

@Shipwreck – I bet he batted his big puppy eyes at You when he asked ! LOL . I am sure You are designing one in Your head already ! Thanks for taking a look and thanks for the the kind words.

@spunwood – Thanks, and as for the rope handles I purchased a length of rope from one of the box stores and then drilled holes in to the panels sized to the appropiate diameter. To attach, I fashioned some 3/4 stock in to thin blocks and drilled round mortises to accept glue and rope ends and then simply glued the blocks to the interior sides and let dry(picture #4). I Hope this has helped You out and Once again, thanks for looking…....ROB
