I made this doll bed for our cats. It is the perfect size for them (16×23 x 12). The design is from Ana White’s web site:
http://ana-white.com/2010/11/doll-farmhouse-bed
All the material is surfaced on all six sides using hand planes; I’m learning … slowly. Except for the legs, which are some old 2×2s that were laying around, everything is made from reclaimed Pine T&G boards. The finish is a few coats of an even mix of BLO, Mineral Spirits and varnish of some sort I had on the shelf.
The only modifications I made from Ana’s design is that the rails are doweled to the legs, the panels are edge-glued together and glued into grooves in the legs and horizontal support pieces. Also the platform supports are glued into groves in the rails. Everything is nice and tight. I think I could stand on this bed without any problems, so I think It’ll handle a cat or two.
The “mattress” is simply a piece of fleece (I think that’s what you call it) folded a few times since it needs to be washed frequently (shedding season, ya know).
Comments, good, bad or indifferent are welcome.

That is one extremely well executioned cat bed. Love it. I just hope your cats arent like mine. I got them all (3 of them) beds (from petstore- not as nice as yours) and still have to see one actually sleep in one. :)

Very nice work! I second what Tokolosi said…. our herd of cats only sleep where They want to sleep. In the case of Phred its normally where I am trying to work. At least he makes for a good QA inspector! Post a pic of the bed in use… if you can…. LOL Steve

Thank you for the comments guys.
Phred: I’ll try to get a picture or two, but the cats seem to think anything I point at them is a squirt gun.
