How to quiet SWMBO with $40 and some old junk

My wife wanted a place to put her plants. They were spread out on tables all over the patio, and completely in the way. She also wanted to put some lattice up, to hang her ivy on. Both sensible ideas, right?
However, her plan was to buy some cheap particle board book shelves at Walmart, to put plants on, and just put a couple of upright 2×4s in the yard, and nail a sheet of lattice to them.
I almost let her do it. You know it would have been funny, to watch it fall over the first time the wind
blew, and how long does particle board last, when you water plants on top of it?
She had also been complaining about my furniture collection.
I have picked up a lot of old furniture to use for building materials, and had a large assortment of pieces that were too good to throw away, but I wasn’t sure what to do with them.

I had bought an old cabinet, a wardrobe maybe, for $30, It was made of solid black walnut, 7 feet tall, almost 5 feet wide,
and 30 inches deep. I had to cut it apart in the front yard, to get it through the gate.I took the good boards to build
furniture with.

That is only part of it. Definitely worth my 30 bucks, so the rest was free. I had some extra desk parts left from building
my workshop. With less than $40 worth of treated lumber, and a couple of days of minimal effort, I made her happy, and my
dogs, too.

Now she sits in the chair, watches the birds,

and talks to me all day. I guess it back backfired on me, huh?

Love the pictures and resourcefulness! It’s a good thing if the gal gets what she wants. If she’s happy, life is good. Looks like the pups like it too! Thanks for posting!

I always chuckle appreciatively at your responses David. You have a genuine, subtle smartass thing going on that should simply be admired and enjoyed. Keep ‘em coming.

Great re-use of finds you held onto … I am the same … can not throw away something I can re-use! Good Job!

No, I told him not to kill her when we let the little dog move in. I don’t think he likes her very much, but so far, he hasn’t eaten her.
