I have made several of these toy wood models of Stearman biplanes.

The last one was from Yellowheart wood. This species worked well, and the yellow color is nice for these planes.

I used red African padauk for the wings on one of the planes. I have also made them from all maple wood.

The tricky part is converting a rectangular blank into an almost round body for the plane. I illustrate how to make these planes on my web site.

very nice…. wood always looks better than those mass produced plastic toys. The big kids like them too….

Love them, I have three or four books on wood working and plan on having a time where my son and I make all the airplanes that are in them. I really like the contrast with the red paduak.
