I’ve been commissioned to carve the barrel heads for a new winery opening up locally here in Cedar City. The Iron Gate Winery will be up and running before summer and I am happy to be a part of it. This barrel is the testbed for my craft and how it can be appied. The top or ‘Head’ of the barrel was done via CNC on new Oak and the waist was carved with my dremel router and burned for contrast. Also added “Merlot” colored epoxy inside the IG to enhance. The edge of the banner was inlaid with silver to reflect the existing hoops which were buffed with a wire wheel. If not all of the heads can be CNC’d then a branding iron will be used.
