Fire place mantle

This is a mantle I did for myself after moving into my new place. The old one was just a ugly green marble surround….Not my style, so it had to go. I wanted to keep it simple and somewhat traditional. Its a bit tricky to build something that does not appear to big as it was for a gas fireplace. I did not want it to overwhelm the insert. all in all I think it came out pretty good. It was made out of popler and painted white.
