So the idea is this: The vertical piece will have a hook to hang your keys. You can throw some spare change in the little drawer, and the whole thing is mounted on the wall on the way out to the garage.
Pretty easy to make – especially if you cheat like I did and leave major parts with the bark so you don’t have to sand them to death. But the idea was to knock out a bandsaw box quickly. The tricky part is keeping track of where all the pieces need to go back to as you cut it. There are a lot of cuts and you end up with a pile of little pieces before you do any gluing. This is made from a small white oak log. The bad news is, I was in a hurry and didn’t want to wait, so I used wood that was almost green – 22% MC. Yes, it will probably crack. Already has, although I bathed it in shellac to slow the drying. But the idea still works. I learned a lot and this IS kinda cute. Now that I’ve made all the mistakes, (and trust me there were many!) the next one will be made with more patience.
