Texas Flag Box

Project by Jimboe posted 610 days ago 469 views 3 times favorited 10 comments Add to Favorites Watch

A online buddy of mine from canada visited texas and wanted a box to store her mementos of her stay there .So she asked if i could build her a box of the flag . So this is what i came up with. I dont have any pictures of the inside but on the bottom of the box it had a hidden compartment (look pretty cool and well hidden) .

The flag is made with paduk walnut birdseye and curl maple. The hinges are made with walnut . The case is made with oak and is finger jointed . I added the birdseye splines for looks .

Hope ya like

I really like this box. The wooden hinges are an excellent touch. You did a nice job with the inlays as well.

Thanks for the post.

Very nice flag box. I like the hinges. Did you pin them with wood or metal?

very nice flag box, I also like the thought of a hidden compartment! How do you access the compartment? and how big is the space?, more pictures of these details would be nice!

Extremley nice box, the hinges surely add that eye drawing detai. Do you have a special jig for doing the hinges, or did you hand cut them…...your brother in woodworking John

Colin… I dont have the box to show the inside . The inside has a false bottm that swivels up when pressed
john … i made the hinges with the table saw using a sled same as with the finger joints

Jimboe – nice box with some really good features. It must have taken some real patient work to inlay the lone star.
