Well here it is. My first mallet. The weird thing is that I figured I would have bought one from the store. I’m getting more into hand tools as of the last month and with a set of chisels from Woodriver, I didn’t want to hit them with a metal hammer. Went out back to my maple firewood pile and picked out two decent pieces. I wanted to do this with only handtools, but there was one problem. I have no hand powered auger or drill so I had to use my power drill (boooooo). A little shaving down with a hatchet and a 1” hole trough the top and there you have it, my first mallet, made by yours truly. If it does ever crack or wear apart it will make it as a decoration. Mallet head is about 10”x3”dia. and the handle is overall about 15-17” (sorry so measuring tape on this project.

*Enjoy the facial expression as well. The wife wanted me to look like a caveman.

Yeah, I had lots of fun making it. I might make another smaller one for the small tapping that I might need to do.
