I’ve purchased a few of these at gift shops here in Arizona & Colorado, but never really thought they were very authentic looking, at least not hand made like you might expect. So I made one of my own. Black & White Ebony. About 3 hrs in time. Yes it works, whatta ya think?

Looks great Liz … but ya know those werent initially made for tabacco ;). Your wood choice is spot on.

Yes, like any woodturning piece of yours, it is very nice and well done project but I dont like anything related to smoking. I am an anti-smoking campaigner. Thank you for sharing.

Arizona is one of three states that surround the largest Indian reservation in North America. There is a lot of Navajo tradition here & I am more than slightly consumed with it, hence the southwestern influence in my work. Sam: I am not a smoker. I also am turned off at the prospect of smoking. I did however indulge myself with smoking in the 60’s, but can’t really tell you what Chesterfield is.

Chris yes you are right The Pipe out dates Tobacco, cannabis was used before tobacco, And I wouldn’t doubt that corn was also smoked before tobacco

As for some of the native put west they use some plant in ceremony’s that can get you high and Tv. has play this up as native just using drugs to get high

Indian Joe: You might want to tell your story and believes to the Indian Historical folks, because they think contrary to what you are saying. That cannabis was used though be it for ceremonial purposes, and as you say not for just the buss of getting high. Do a little research on the Native American Indian and you will see that. After all it is History that is all we have to go on. Quoting something that I’ve heard in a movie, is a little insulting.

I agree on the wood choice. Maybe consider slightly charring the inside to give it the look of having been used but as a display piece that isn’t really necessary.
