I made this simple little hat rack last weekend out of red oak scraps I picked up out of the Rockler Scrap bin a couple months ago…the goal was to clear off my dresser top since my hats took so much room…I love hats and I have a growing bald spot to prove it…
I decided to add the shelf so that I could finally display my teacher of the year memorabilia that had been gathering dust since last year…
I turned the hat hangers/knobs my self out of some scrap walnut…they are not all the same…which I like…they actually took the most time…
I finished it in BLO (boiled linseed oil) which was nice and easy…but boy it still smells a week later…so I think I rubbed too much on (?)...

Thanks guys!
And Lew—-YES—-you need a hat rack…I am curious why you have a pepper shaker next to the stack…is that because you are an old salt?
Thanks Lee…it was a super nice honor…

Matt,
That’s an old retired version. One of my first. Don’t have the heart to throw it away.

This is one of the only times I can say “NICE RACK” without getting in trouble…
Kinda like my requesting people not to say “HI Jack” in the airport whey they see me.

Hey Matt, shouldn’t there be some kind of ship’s captain hat on that rack? I haven’t been around this site for a while, but I had to drop by when I saw the project notifier thingie. Hope all is well. -SST

Nice hat rack Matt, & congrats on making teacher of the year!
If you don’t like the smell of BLO, try some Walnut oil.
BLO bothers Barb’s allergies!

Tom…SO TRUE…okay—-when I finally finish ONE of the TWO boats I am building I not only expect a collection to be taken up by all the jocks for a captains hat—-but a WHOLE sailors outfit…AND I WILL WEAR IT…
Dick…goood idea on the walnut oil…I have some…and thanks for the congrats! I am glad you remembered (but you are not 85 yet)...

Re: the BLO Assuming you wiped off all the excess, and then maybe a day later rubbed it off again, the smell should dissipate. You also could, wipe on a coat of poly to seal it.
Also, if there’s any way you could let me know when the pics of you in a sailors suit show up, I’d appreciate it. -Tom

Tom—-you missed the cue——all you old guys who have been on me about the boat need to take up a collection for the sailor hat and suit…
