This slit drum is like many others here and was inspired by the one from mere mortals. It is made of pine salvaged from a bed frame and oak from a coffee table. I was curious if the oak would have a pleasant sound, it does :) I have made several of these now and use them as a handy last minute gifts for children’s birthday parties. Parents love these things and are very impressed. The kids enjoy the drums, but mostly like the mallets for some reason. I make the mallets using takeout Chinese chopsticks and hi bounce balls with a little epoxy. They end up looking like lollipops and are great for smacking little sisters with ;-)

Thanks for looking.

Really cool Mike.
I’m always on the look out for fun things to make as gifts, for when an occasion arises.

Have your say...
