I had not previously attempted a stave segmented bowl, I just anticipated to may problems. But I guess curiosity got the best of me. So without trying anything to complicated I gave it a whirl. Stay tuned for this technique to be used again. Curly Maple with a band of Purpleheart & burnt top ring. 4-1/2 hours. Finish is friction wax. I use Friction wax quite often on my projects.

Oh by the way I glued up the Purpleheart & upper & lower Maple before cutting the staves.

These are beautiful. I have not had good wood to try turning yet, but I really like the idea of the segments rather then one big single piece. What is friction wax?

That is a beautiful piece. Very nicely done and I love the way the purpleheart and the burnt top looks. This is a great job!
