Box with hidden compartment

This is a jewelry box I made for my sister-in-law last Christmas. I really like making boxes with splined corners. It helps dress up an otherwise simple box. She loved the hidden compartment. I made sure to keep the tolerances tight so you can pick up the box and the bottom stays in place. This is one of the first projects where I really took my time and made sure I sneaked up on the final fit. I am still learning patience and woodworking is an excellent teacher.

Very nice and the secret compartment is a wonderful extra. I’m sure that she loved it.

Sneaking up on the proper fit for a small box; sounds like my afternoon. There is a nice relaxation to it: trim a little, test, repeat. And then that wonderful moment when the pieces just fit, no gaps. You’re box looks great.
