I have taught with a fellow teacher for quite a few years. Her daughter is an exchange student in Italy this year. She had a rough time and now has a great host family. My friend wanted to buy a cutting board to send to them out of California woods., as a thank you I made a simple cutting board (Walnut and Maple), but told her I would make a box too. I had a lot of this Redwood Burl and some Maple Burl. This host family has made my friend’s life easier. When my friends are happy, I am happy. When they are not happy, I have to listen!!!! And I like to make boxes. It is about 9” x 5” x 5” and finished with Watco Danish Oil.

A very nice gesture on your part and a VERY nice box. You always have the nicest woods that make me envious every time.

Gorgeous wood grains, very nice detail work on the box. You are a good friend to have; and a good friend is certain to have good friends. Congratulations.

Such gorgeous wood! And a beautifull box.
I have boxes that live with their owners from coast to coast and on three continents. And because my boxes are named I remember each one. I often wonder what they contain, what conversations they overhear, etc. It gives me pleasure. And I hope that they will outlive me and that someday, somewhen (no typo) someone picks one up and think: “I wonder who made you?”
