This box is constructed out of pine, it has hand made hinges made out of mahogany. The top is covered with leather and trimmed with mahogany and brass tacks. The interior is lined with painted canvas.

WOW. I really like that. I just finished gluing up a box that is approximately the same size and I haven’t been able to decide how to make the top. I just might do something similar. I have already made some wood hinges for it.

Is the latch on the front a working latch or mainly for decoration?

This is a beautiful piece of work. Love the hinges and latch. Very nice job.

Very nice project. I really like the hinges; the leather makes a super distinctive look to it as well.

Thanks Ampeater, the latch on the front is not a working latch, it gives something to lift the lid with and it looks good too.
I would like to add that this box is a project i made a while back and i did have it posted on this site, but in the wrong place.

I need to know how to line up wooden hinges so they do not bind. I’m almost certain that it has something to do with making your hinges square.

i am not a big fan of wood hinges and latches. They sometimes look clumsy on an elegant box.

But this one works really well! Maybe its the shape or the additional features… I like it!
