This piece of Walnut was in a pallet I bought at the mill. When I started sanding it to make a bench I found many different abstracts in it so I had Laura take a few pictures of a few of them There was about 9 or 10 abstracts in this piece of wood. I finished it on a Thursday and it sold one hour after I opened in Tahoe that Friday for $300.00. Should of kept this one because I will never see this again My favoret abstract is the Bat in picture four. Lets see there is a Bat a cows head a bird a vodoo head a duck head. You tell me look close if you can see abstracts they will hit you fast.. Just another of mother natures creations.
Thanks Dennis

Yes it is very unique how mother nature creats things so beautiful. So us as woodworkers can bring it out..

Great looking wood. Amazing that you could find something like this in a pallet. The pallets over here are just cheap poplar or some other cheap wood with absolutely no value (trust me, I have tried using them).

That’s some nice pallet slabs. It’s amazing what a little work will bring out.

I agree it is beautiful. I know in general we make things to sell, but I have had a couple items that a small part of me hoped nobody would buy. but a capitalist at heart.
Second, where do you find walnut in pallets? It sickens me when they use nice wood for this. They must send all the crappy ones to South Dakota cause look at a lot of pallets and that is all I see.

Your table top looks a little thick to have been part of a pallet. My guess is there was a stack of wood slabs stacked on a pallet. Anyway it makes a nice bench or table top. Better watch out around sawmills. Don’t let the sawdust touch you. It’s contaminated with a virus that makes you want to buy one and saw your own lumber… And don’t even think about looking in the “Free” section of your local Craig’s List for free logs. The sickness starts out by collecting free logs and taking them to a sawmill. Get the sawyer to price slicing them into 1 1/2” and 2” slabs and not by counting the board feet produced. He will have to do a lot less work to live saw them into slabs so it should cost you less. You may already be infected…

I saw a monkey and a German Shepherd! WOW, it is definitely a conversation starter! It was a steal at $300, especially at a high-end market like Tahoe! Beautiful!

You have certainly been blessed with some special wood lately. And you have made excellent use of it. I would have had a hard time selling this but I’m pretty mercenary!
