This is my latest box project. Dimensions are 16”x10”x5”. Finish is 2 coats of Tung Oil Finish. Patron hinges are made of Hedge (Osage Orange/ Bois de Arc). I will entertain guesses as to what the box is made of but haven’t decided what the prize will be for correct answer!

Nice box, I agree with Joey, it does look like bamboo.

I have never worked with Bamboo, but it looks like what I think Bamboo should look like. Nice box anyway. I like the hinge detail. I have thought of orienting the wood grain in a vertical manner. I may have to try it.

Andy thats another super build, looks like some spalted beech I had a while back. Great looking hinges. I have been out in Cal., Oregon, And Washington on a vacation. Also took the time to shop for wood. It is all beautiful, so I bought a little of each, but none like that.

You guys are a lot smarter than you look! 5 out of 5 correct answers. It is really cool looking and I had never seen it before. My buddy Clark from Wichita spent the winter building a restaurant in Neb. out of this and brought me some small scraps last weekend. It is suprisingly heavy, very hard, lots of slivers, but otherwise works like wood. It is 3/4” thick and I’m curious what will happen if I try to resaw it. It would then have the tiger pattern on only one side but that might make an interesting box. Thanks Patron for the very easy wooden hinge idea.

Great looking box Andy. I have no idea what kind of wood you used. That was going to be the first thing I looked for when I clicked the mouse. Guess I’ll have to check back to found out. An even more important question is, what are you going to do with it?

I only knew what it is because every time our family goes to the big box store, I hear how I need use it for the dinning room floor. I may have to get to that project soon and buy a couple extra boxes of flooring so I can make boxes out of it. LOL
