This is a 6’’ square block of cedar with a 5’’ round sycamore box/lid. The sycamore box is 3’’ in height. I’m sure there is another design like this but I thought this one up myself from start to finish and that may be the problem. LOL
This went from log to box all on the band saw. Wish I had taken more pics ‘cause I struggled mightily with this and I’m still not totally happy with it. Burnt up/ dulled up/ bucked up the blade about 3/4ths the way through cutting the center of the cedar out. But it is what it is and I made it!
The cedar has Howards Feed-n-Wax applied and I left the syacamore unfinished. I like the contrast between the two woods.
Hopefully someone will like it. Thanks for looking.

I like this box as it is unlike the rest that I have seen. I love the cedar especially in pic #5. Good job.

Beautiful!
I, too, like the color contrast between the two woods.

This is honest thinking and shows a real creative bent. The finial is a nice touch with a practical use.
When I get a new idea for making a box, I often craft five or six boxes in a series refining the idea with each one … but I sell all of them.

I struggle with patientce on the bandsaw. I tend to force it. You did a nice job and it looks good.

Looks great jaykaypur I think most important you are always trying new things in the woodshop. New designs and going for it…I think there’s a lot of real rewards we can all gain from sometimes just letting our creativity guide us.
Take care
