This 200# black walnut trunk and root section should give me 3 bowls. The bowl shown is my first. It is approx 12” diameter and 6” deep. The only finish is compound buffing and a coat of Fornby’s Tung Oil and carnauba wax. I’ve never tried inlay but decided to feed a groove with bare electrical copper wire. The bowl no longer has the inlay…I didn’t realize that you should wait for the bowl to change shape! I’ve also learned about annealing and hardening the copper and will try again soon. The bowl was cut 1 day and finished on the 3rd day.

I didn’t realize this was walnut burl. It’s just the base of the trunk where the large roots sprout laterally. I’d LOVE to get my hands on some walnut burl. Are you in So Cal?
