The letters are walnut the backing is red oak. The granddaughter is almost 2 :) My wife and I found a font we liked and dropped it into PhotoShop to stretch it a but then print and band saw. Sanding end grain takes forever but forever in this case was about 5 hours. I really need an oscillating sander and if I am willing to take the abuse of miss over lord then I may get one someday <laugh>
