February, 2012—This is a piece of sapele sandwiched between two pieces of marblewood. This is one of the largest band saw boxes I have made to date. And it is heavy! The marblewood is very dense and a challenge to cut with my 3/16ths blade on my band saw. But in the end I am very happy with the result. The last photo includes a DVD for scale. The finish is tung oil.

Super box. I’ve never heard of marble wood- does it have another name? It looks great. Is that snake wood for the knobs? As for being heavy- that is a good thing, since using a light wood makes a box that has to be held so that it doesn’t slide around.
One of your best boxes- so far- I think.

Thanks Donna, that’s a nice compliment. The “marble wood” is from our local Woodcraft store and that’s what they call it. They don’t have it all the time, so it’s hit or miss.
