This is a knockdown stand that I made for my daughter’s collage dorm room and later her kitchen. Made from birch. The side frames are mortise and tenon joined, mostly because I don’t have a pocket hole jig and do have a mortising machine. The shelves are Baltic birch edged with solid birch and biscuits. The shelves fit over the sides in a tight press fit and the longer front apron on each shelf keeps it from racking side to side. That cut I had to sneak up on very slowly to make sure they were tight but not too tight. I made it so each shelf will slip into and out of place with a whack from the heal of your hand to facilitate the knockdown design. Being that she is a collage student and moving constantly this unit will come apart and go together in about a minute and can be thrown in the back seat or trunk of a small car during moves. Watco natural danish oil and a couple coats of poly finish.
