This box design is a favourite of mine. I seem to be working through various combinations of timbers, joints, size and linings. This one is made from rippled sycamore and wenge. I then used red velvet to line the box, just to add to the contrast of the 2 woods. Joints are variably spaced finger joints produced using my Incra jig.
Sizes are 9” x 6” x 3” i.e. its a 1:2:3 box.

Another nice one. Wenge is some fascinating wood.

Again, David, you have made a beautiful box. I agree that the velvet makes a nice contrast with the wood. Although the wenge and sycamore contrast nicely as well. Excellent choice of woods.

Excellent box, David! The lines and colors are very masculine…. definitely a valet box.

I agree with Charlie – it is a manly looking box – but I bet even a sissy would like this one. Nice tight box joints, good wood choices, excellent finish – well done.

Another beautiful box. I like the lid a lot. How did you make the joinery?

Thanks for the comments folks.
I used an Incra Jig to make the joints.
The lid is made by butt jointing the various pieces together – I’vde got a nice jig for use on my router table that lets me make good straight edges which can be glued together.
