My first bowl

So I’ve been getting back into woodworking after a long absence as I now have a place to do it and some time. I’ve always loved turning but never did any outside of school when I was a kid. What interests me most now is bowls and hollow vessels so to get me jump started I took a bowl turning class at the Woodcraft store in Denver a week ago. The instructor used to be a junior high woodworking teacher, so he was good at teaching us (and keeping us in line!).

This is the bowl I created. The wood is Sapele and it is about 6” in diameter.

I picked up my own lathe and some tools last week and my family already has a hundred projects for me to do!

That is how the addiction starts and it only gets worse.

And so it begins. The addiction. Great bowl. You’re off to a great start and it’s only the beginning. Welcome to Lumberjocks and welcome to the world of turning. What lathe did you get?

Thanks for the kind comments. I’m quickly realizing that the Lathe is just the beginning of the whole in my wallet…

@Darell – I picked up the Delta Midi Variable Speed for a great price. It hums very sweetly.

@jockmike2 – I used Danish Oil for the finish.

Lathe work is addicting but I’m not gonna complain as long as the work comes out beautiful! Keep up the good work.
